The Parish Hall has served the village
well for almost 100 years. The Parish Council
of the time borrowed £400 from the Local Government
Board in order to provide the parish with a room which
could be utilized for all kinds of public gatherings.
Land in Addison Road, owned by the Rev. Joseph Hill
was bought for £25 and the building costs were estimated
at £320. The loan was to be repaid in installments
spread over a number of years.
The hall was built of white bricks from
the yards of the Northern Brick Company of Eye, Peterborough,
the arches being rubbed and gauged, relieved with a
few courses of ornamental red brick. A foundation
stone at the front of the building contains the names
of the parish council at the time.
Opened on 29th May 1905 in the centre
of the village it has been used for a variety of activities
throughout the years. It is run by the parish
council and can be used, for example, for dancing sessions, short mat bowls, bingo,
birthday parties and wedding receptions. Parish Council meetings
are also held in the hall which will accommodate over 100 people. It has a large main hall, a smaller
meeting room, a kitchen, toilets and a disabled toilet
and a car park which will space for 20 - 25 cars. There is a
preferential rate for those living in the village.
