March Rural Neighbourhood Watch Association.
The new number is: 0845 456 4564. (Force
Control Room). Please note, it does not replace direct dialing numbers
and in an emergency you still ring 999 and clearly state the emergency and
they will prioritise.
Beware of confidence tricksters in all aspects. Do
not buy from cold callers.
Identity Cards. Note: apparently "Bonafide"
cards can easily be manufactured with home computers, printers and
laminators enabling criminals to produce authentic looking documents.
Also beware of ringing the telephone number on these cards. Take the
time to look up the number in the telephone book, compare before phoning.
Rural crime is still low, lets keep it that way.
Always BE AWARE.
DO`s and DON`Ts.
If a doorstep caller knocks at your door.......
DO check the identity of the caller by
asking to see an ID card. |
DON`T believe all callers are genuine.
DON`T believe the "scare stories" a salesman may tell you - they are rarely true. |
DO challenge anyone looking over your
property - did you give permission? |
DON`T believe genuine tarmac companies
have "loads over" they don`t. |
DO consider if you really need the work
done. Think before you decide. Shop around
for the best deal. |
DON`T believe a cash deal is easier and
cheaper. |
DO ask the caller to leave you with information
to study at your leisure. |
DON`T sign anything or pay anything until
you are sure about it. |
| DO remember you should be
given a right to cancel a contract after "cold calling" |
DON`T believe special deals "today
only" - its high pressure selling. |
DON`T answer your door unless you are sure.
If you are concerned about doorstep callers in your area,
pass the information on.

March Rural Neighbourhood Watch Chairman: Jim Jackson
March Rural Neighbourhood Watch
Association.
Our village Neighbourhood Watch is part of
the March Rural Neighbourhood Watch Association and has
been in existence since May 2001.
It covers the rural villages of Wimblington,
Doddington, Benwick and Christchurch.
It meets once a quarter as a whole unit but
each village runs its own section and they individually
meet to discuss there own village needs, strategies and
fundraising events. We have 16 co-ordinators at present
though there are some streets that still need to be covered
- and more volunteers are needed. If you can help please call Jim
Jackson on 01354 740653.
We adopted the Data Link scheme whereby
each householder is given the opportunity to a pack which
consists of a container, stickers and a form on which you
write down your medicines and medical condition. This
goes in the fridge door and should the emergency services
be called to attend the property they would notice the sticker
on your door, this informs them to look in your fridge for
the information required should you not be in a fit state
to talk to them. This saves any medicines being given
to you that are not compatible with your prescribed drugs.
Simple idea but it works.
The BOBBY scheme is also
on offer to all over 65 vulnerable people. If you need a door chain fitted or window locks or window sashes replaced
etc anything to do with safety, you can apply to the Bobby
scheme and (provided you qualify) they will come and fix
you up free of charge (if you are over 65 and a victim of burglary), or
for £20 (if you are a potential victim of burglary, or disabled and living
in a high crime aresa). Their telephone number is 07866 602100.
Distraction burglary
occurs all year round.
Be aware, don't let anyone into your home unless you know
them. If in doubt check with the firm in question,
all service men should carry an identity card with their name
on, check that they should officially be in your area.
